Regular blocks
Much of the city is laid out in fairly even blocks. On a map this gives it a consistent, woven texture.

Ang mapa
Arapiraca Map Poster & Print
Arapiraca lies in the agreste of Alagoas, the transitional zone between the humid coast and the dry sertão. It is the state's second city and its main inland centre. The land around it rolls gently, with few steep features. So on a map, the city spreads out quite evenly, in a broadly regular pattern of blocks around a central core.
The city grew through agriculture, above all tobacco, which for decades shaped its economy and its identity. Arapiraca is still often associated with that crop. Today it serves as a commercial and service hub for the surrounding towns, and main roads from several directions converge on it.
An Arapiraca map poster shows a steadily growing inland town. There is a central area where the roads meet, surrounded by neighbourhoods of mostly regular blocks. At the edges, the streets break up into open land. Printed in black and white, it has a quiet, even texture, with no river or coastline to interrupt the grid.

Converging roads
Highways from across the agreste meet at the city. They reflect its role as the main inland centre of Alagoas.
Open surroundings
Beyond the edge of the city lies rural land once dominated by tobacco. The urban area stands out clearly against it.
