Bad Langensalza lies in western Thuringia, on the edge of the fertile Thuringian Basin. Much of its medieval town wall still stands. From above, the old town appears as a tightly knit oval of lanes and courtyards inside that ring, and the small Salza stream runs through town toward the Unstrut. The town is known for its sulphur springs and for its many gardens.
