Banfora is the capital of the Cascades Region in the green southwest of Burkina Faso, near the borders with Côte d'Ivoire and Mali. From above, the town has a clear, orderly plan. Roads cross at regular intervals, the railway between Abidjan and Ouagadougou runs through it, and wide plantation fields spread across the land around it.
