Batī lies in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, on the eastern escarpment where the highlands begin their long descent toward the Afar lowlands. The town is best known for its weekly Monday market, one of the largest in the region, where Afar, Oromo and Amhara traders meet to exchange livestock, grain and goods.
