Bedburg lies in the Rhineland between Cologne and Mönchengladbach, along the Erft, a small river that curves through the flat country west of the Rhine. From above, the town reads as a modest core with low-density streets spreading outward, crossed by rail and road lines and edged by open fields. The land around Bedburg has been heavily shaped by lignite mining.
