Ang mapa
Blackwood Map Poster & Print
Blackwood lies in the Sirhowy Valley in the county borough of Caerphilly, South Wales. Like many valley towns, it is long and narrow. The high street runs along the higher ground, and residential streets, many of them terraced, extend down the slopes toward the river and the valley floor.
The town has a notable place in Welsh history and culture. The area was closely involved in the Chartist movement, which organised the Newport Rising of 1839 in these valleys. More recently, Blackwood became known as the home town of the Manic Street Preachers, whose early songs drew on life in the valleys.
A Blackwood map poster shows the shape of a valley town clearly. The main street provides a strong line, the terraces fill the slopes in parallel rows, and the land beyond the edge of town rises toward open hillside and woodland.

Terraced slopes
Rows of terraced houses step down the valley sides. They create tight parallel lines, one of the most recognisable patterns of South Wales.
Sirhowy Valley
The valley floor and the hills rising on either side frame the town. This gives the poster a strong sense of direction and clear edges.
