Borşa sits in the far north of Romania, in the upper valley of the Vişeu River. It is a long, narrow town. Houses and farmsteads follow the river and the main road for many kilometres, and side lanes climb short distances into the side valleys. From above, the town looks like one long line with small branches off it.
To the south rise the Rodna Mountains, whose high ridges mark the edge of the map. To the east the road climbs toward the Prislop Pass and crosses into Bucovina. East of town, the road winds uphill toward the Prislop Pass on its way to Bucovina. Its tight bends make a clear, lively pattern at the edge of the map.
