Hilltop fort
The fort occupies the high ground above the town, its walls and paths set apart from the dense lanes below. It anchors the upper part of the map.

Ang mapa
Chanderi Map Poster & Print
Chanderi lies in the Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh, in hilly country near the Betwa River. The town sits below a hilltop fort, and on a map the old streets gather at the foot of the slopes, winding between reservoirs, step-wells and the remains of old gateways. The terrain gives the town an irregular, organic shape.
Chanderi is known across India for its handwoven Chanderi sarees, light fabrics made from silk and cotton with fine borders. Weaving still takes place in homes throughout the town. The area also holds many monuments from the Malwa sultanate and Bundela periods, which appear on the map as open grounds and compounds between the lanes.
A Chanderi map poster brings out the medieval character of the town plan: narrow lanes, water tanks and a fort above everything. In black and white, the patterns become as intricate as the textiles the town is known for, which makes it a fitting piece for anyone who admires its craft.

Tanks and reservoirs
Water bodies of various sizes appear throughout and around the town, clear shapes that break up the street pattern and show a long tradition of water management.
Weavers' lanes
The old town is a maze of narrow, winding streets where many weaving households live. On paper they form a fine, irregular mesh.
