Codlea sits in Brașov County, on the western rim of the Bârsa Land, the flat basin surrounded by the Carpathians. Directly above the town rises Măgura Codlei, a wooded hill that stands out from the plain. The town was founded by Transylvanian Saxons, and it keeps a fortified church at its centre, a typical feature of the region.
