New Town estates
Residential neighbourhoods are laid out in curving streets and closes. This creates a pattern of loops and branches that is typical of postwar British planning.

Ang mapa
Corby Map Poster & Print
Corby lies in north Northamptonshire, and from above it reads as a planned town. Curving residential estates, cul-de-sacs and ring roads surround a modern town centre, and the small historic Corby village sits within the newer development. On its eastern side, large open plots mark land once occupied by heavy industry.
The town was transformed in the 1930s when a large steelworks was built to use local iron ore. Workers came in great numbers from Scotland, and Corby is still sometimes called Little Scotland. It was designated a New Town in 1950, which explains its layout. The steel plant largely closed in 1980, and the town has since rebuilt itself around new industries and housing.
A Corby map poster brings out the logic of a postwar plan: estates grouped into neighbourhoods, main roads looping around them and green corridors in between. Nearby, the woods and parkland of the Rockingham area to the north give the composition a softer frame.

Industrial east
Large, open plots on the eastern side mark land tied to the former steelworks. On the map they stand in contrast to the fine texture of the estates.
Old village core
The original village of Corby survives within the larger town. Its irregular older streets are a small counterpoint to the planned development around it.

Bakit Corby
Isang mapang may kahulugan
For families whose history leads back to the steelworks, or to the Scottish migration that followed, the map is a portrait of a town built by work. It also suits anyone who grew up in its estates.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a year of arrival or a family name. Choose from five styles, and download HD files for $9 or order a matte print with an optional frame.
