Douliu is the seat of Yunlin County in central-western Taiwan. It lies on the eastern side of the county, where the broad farming plain begins to rise toward the foothills of the Central Mountain Range. From above, the city is a compact, fairly regular grid of streets surrounded by a patchwork of fields, irrigation channels and small villages.
The centre is arranged around the station on the main western railway line, with commercial streets and markets close by. Newer districts extend outward along the major roads.
