Irrigation canals
Straight channels and the roads beside them run across the plain in long parallel lines, forming the main structure of the map around the town.

Ang mapa
Elixku Map Poster & Print
Elixku lies in the Kashgar region of Xinjiang, on the broad cultivated plain north of Yarkand at the western edge of the Tarim Basin. Settlement here depends entirely on irrigation. Water from the rivers coming down from the Pamir and Karakoram is carried across the land in canals, and towns and villages grow along those lines.
On a map, this produces a very particular geometry. Long, straight roads and channels divide the land into rectangular plots, and the town appears as a denser knot where several routes meet. Beyond the fields, the lines stop abruptly: the Taklamakan Desert lies to the east, and the farmed land is an island of order at its edge.
A Elixku map poster turns that irrigation pattern into its main subject. The cultivated grid spreads out across the sheet with the town at its centre, and the geometry shows how carefully this landscape has been laid out. For someone from southern Xinjiang, it is a precise picture of an oasis landscape shaped by water.

Rectangular field plots
The farmland is divided into regular blocks, which on the poster read as a clear grid, very different from the tangle of an old city centre.
Town crossroads
The built-up area forms where several roads come together, a denser patch of streets set among the open fields that surround it.

Bakit Elixku
Isang mapang may kahulugan
For people from Elixku and the oases around Kashgar and Yarkand, this map shows home the way farmers and planners see it: water, fields and roads in careful order. It is also a striking graphic for anyone drawn to desert-edge landscapes.
Add your own title, a subtitle and the coordinates line. Among the five styles, Sand is a natural match for the oasis setting, while Blueprint emphasises the engineered lines of the canals; Classic, Noir and Paper are also available.
