Ang mapa
Ellwangen Map Poster & Print
Ellwangen lies on the Jagst River in eastern Baden-Württemberg, in a valley framed by wooded hills. On a map, the river runs through the lower part of town, and the old centre gathers on its bank in a compact, irregular pattern of streets around the market square and the Romanesque basilica of St. Vitus.
The town grew around a Benedictine abbey founded in the eighth century and later became the seat of a prince-provost. Its skyline still reflects that. Schloss ob Ellwangen stands on a hill above the town, and on the opposite height sits the baroque pilgrimage church of Schönenberg. Together they frame the valley from two sides.
An Ellwangen map poster shows the old town, the river and the heights around it in balance. Newer districts spread along the valley and up the slopes, but the medieval core remains clearly readable, a tight knot of streets at the centre of the composition.
