Eqlīd lies in the north of Fars Province, high in the Zagros Mountains. The town occupies a valley floor enclosed by bare ridges, and on a map its streets form a compact centre with newer districts extending along the main roads. Around them, orchards and fields make a green patchwork against the dry mountain slopes.
Because of its altitude, Eqlīd has cold winters and mild summers, unusual for a province better known for the heat around Shiraz. It is one of the higher towns in the province.
