Ang mapa
Espigão dOeste Map Poster & Print
Espigão d'Oeste is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rondônia, in the south-western Amazon. Like many towns in the state, it grew during the settlement programmes of the late twentieth century, and it shows. From above, the centre is a regular grid of straight streets and square blocks, a plan clearly drawn before most of the buildings existed.
Farmland surrounds the town, much of it cleared from forest during and after that settlement period. Roads leave the urban grid in straight lines and continue as long rural tracks that divide the land into large rectangular properties. Rivers and streams wind between them, the only curves in an otherwise geometric landscape.
An Espigão dOeste map poster shows how a frontier town is structured. The grid is clean and even, with open country beyond it. For people from Rondônia, or anyone who has seen the region change, the map tells a lot about the place through its layout alone.

Straight rural roads
Roads leave town in straight lines and keep going as farm tracks. The pattern of rural properties they create continues well beyond the urban edge.
Winding streams
Small rivers and streams curve through the surrounding land. They add the only natural curves to a map that is otherwise mostly straight lines.
