Ang mapa
Felling Map Poster & Print
Felling lies in Gateshead, on the south side of the River Tyne and just east of Gateshead town centre. From above, the area is a closely built mix of terraced streets, later housing estates and green spaces. The ground falls gently northward toward the river, and main roads and the railway run east-west through the district.
The name is linked with an important moment in mining history. In 1812 an explosion at Felling Colliery killed ninety-two men and boys. The disaster drew wide attention to the dangers of firedamp and helped spur the development of safety lamps for miners, including the work of Humphry Davy.
A Felling map poster shows the dense pattern of terraces, the railway and road lines, and the approach to the Tyne. It is a close, detailed map of an ordinary Tyneside place with a significant past, and it works well for anyone who grew up here or has family ties to the North East coalfield.

Rail corridor
The railway runs through Felling on an east-west line toward Newcastle and the coast. It cuts a clean stroke through the housing.
South bank slope
The land descends toward the Tyne, where the streets give way to riverside ground. The river edges the northern side of the map.
