Gremda lies on the northwestern side of Sfax, Tunisia's second city, along one of the long roads that radiate out from the centre. Sfax's outskirts have a very particular structure: straight radial routes and ring roads divide the land into large sectors, which were traditionally filled with walled gardens and orchards. Gremda grew within this pattern, and on the map its streets fill the spaces between these long lines.
The Sfax region is one of the great olive-growing areas of the Mediterranean, and olive groves extend across the land beyond the suburbs in regular rows.
