Microdistricts
Residential blocks are arranged in neat groups with courtyards between them. It's a planned pattern, and it gives the print a clear geometric centre.

Ang mapa
Gubkinskiy Map Poster & Print
Gubkinsky is in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, in the north of western Siberia. It was founded in the 1980s to serve the region's oil and gas fields and is named after the geologist Ivan Gubkin. It lies beside the Pyakupur river, in flat country of sparse forest, wetland and countless small lakes.
Because it's a recent, planned town, the map looks very different from older Russian towns. The city is made up of numbered microdistricts, which are blocks of apartment buildings arranged around courtyards and connected by a few main roads. The layout is compact and orderly, which suits a place with a long, harsh winter.
A Gubkinskiy map poster shows the contrast between a tidy block plan and a wide, watery natural landscape. River bends, lake outlines and industrial roads leading out to the fields surround the town, and the space beyond them is largely empty.

Pyakupur river
The river winds past the town through the flat forest land. Its loose curves are a counterpoint to the ordered blocks.
Lakes and wetland
Small lakes and marshes cover the land around the city. They scatter irregular shapes across the edges of the map.
