Gürgentepe is a town and district centre in the interior of Ordu Province, in the hills that rise behind Turkey's Black Sea coast. The landscape here is steep and deeply folded. The town follows the terrain rather than any imposed plan, with streets bending along ridges and slopes and falling away towards the valleys on either side.
The Ordu region is one of the world's most important hazelnut-growing areas, and the slopes around Gürgentepe are covered with orchards and small farms.
