Hermosa Beach is a small city in Los Angeles County, between Manhattan Beach to the north and Redondo Beach to the south. From above, it is a tight grid of short streets running down toward the ocean, crossed by longer north-south routes. The beach itself is wide and straight, bordered by a pedestrian path, the Strand, that runs its whole length.
At the centre of the shoreline, Pier Avenue leads into a pedestrian plaza and out onto the pier. Inland, Pacific Coast Highway runs through the city, and the Hermosa Valley Greenbelt, a long path following a former railway line, draws a narrow green strip through the neighbourhoods.
