Ang mapa
Hydra Map Poster & Print
Hydra is a narrow, rocky island lying off the eastern Peloponnese, long and thin, with a dry mountain ridge along its length. Almost all of its life is concentrated in one place: the harbour town on the north coast, where stone mansions and houses rise steeply around a horseshoe-shaped port like the seats of a theatre.
Private cars and motorbikes are not allowed on the island, so there is no road network in the usual sense. Donkeys, mules and water taxis handle transport, and the map shows footpaths and stepped lanes rather than roads. A coastal path leads west to the small settlements of Kamini and Vlychos, while most of the interior is open hillside with a few monasteries.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries Hydra's shipowners grew wealthy, and their fleet played a significant role in the Greek War of Independence. Later the island drew artists and writers, among them Leonard Cohen, who bought a house there in 1960. A Hydra map poster renders the harbour's dense web of lanes against a long, almost empty island.

Car-free lanes
With no cars allowed, the town is laced with narrow footpaths and staircases instead of roads, a fine, irregular pattern quite unlike a street grid.
The empty ridge
Beyond the town the long spine of the island is mostly bare hillside, crossed only by paths to monasteries and small coves on the far side.

Bakit Hydra
Isang mapang may kahulugan
Hydra attracts people who value quiet, walking and the particular light of the Saronic Gulf, and it has long held a place among artists. A poster of its small harbour town and long ridge feels right in a study, a studio or a room kept deliberately simple.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with the name of a house or the summer you stayed, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Before buying, a free 900 px preview shows how the layout will look.
