Kalbā belongs to the emirate of Sharjah but sits on the opposite side of the country, on the east coast facing the Gulf of Oman. On a map the shoreline runs as a long, almost straight edge, with a corniche road tracing the beach and a grid of residential blocks behind it. Inland, the town gives way to gravel plains and then to the steep folds of the Hajar Mountains.
At the southern end of town lies Khor Kalba, a tidal creek lined with mangroves that are among the oldest in the Arabian Peninsula and a protected habitat for birds and turtles.
