Kushālnagar lies on the eastern edge of Kodagu district in Karnataka, where the hills of Coorg give way to flatter country and the Kaveri forms the boundary with Mysuru district. The town's name is often traced to Hyder Ali, who is said to have received news of his son's birth while camped here and named the place after that happy event.
