Ang mapa
Mitú Map Poster & Print
Mitú is the capital of Vaupés department, deep in the Colombian Amazon near the border with Brazil. The town stands on the bank of the Vaupés river and is reached mainly by air or by water, since no road links it to the rest of the country. On a map, that isolation is plain to see: a small cluster of streets surrounded on every side by forest and water.
The plan is simple. A few streets run parallel to the river, others lead inland, and the airstrip forms the longest straight line in the area, a clearing cut through the trees. The river bends past the town in wide curves, with rapids and islands along its course, while forest paths lead to nearby indigenous communities.
Vaupés is home to many indigenous peoples, including the Cubeo, and much of the department is recognised as indigenous reserve land. A Mitú map poster shows a frontier town at human scale, a few blocks and an airstrip set within one of the largest continuous expanses of forest on earth, drawn with plenty of open space around it.

Airstrip
The runway is the most prominent straight line on the map, a narrow clearing in the forest that serves as Mitú's main connection to the rest of Colombia.
Forest edge
Beyond the last streets, the built area gives way almost immediately to rainforest, with only thin paths and tracks reaching outlying villages.

Bakit Mitú
Isang mapang may kahulugan
Mitú is a place few people visit and fewer forget, whether they grew up there, served there or travelled to this remote edge of the Amazon. A map of its few streets and the great river makes a quietly striking print.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a posting, a journey or a family origin. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download the $9 HD files or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
