Ang mapa
Mountsorrel Map Poster & Print
Mountsorrel lies in the Soar valley in Leicestershire, between Leicester and Loughborough. From above, the old village follows a long main street running roughly parallel to the River Soar, whose navigation, with its locks and cuts, traces a second line through the valley floor just to the east.
The village takes its name from the pinkish granite of the hill behind it, and quarrying has shaped the landscape for centuries. To the west, the vast Mountsorrel quarry cuts a deep, terraced hollow into the land, one of the largest granite workings in Europe, and it looks striking even at map scale.
A Mountsorrel map poster puts the river, the long village street and the geometry of the quarry side by side. It is a distinctive picture of a place where industry and river valley meet, and one that residents will recognise at a glance.

Granite quarry
West of the village, a large granite quarry forms a deep, stepped hollow in the landscape, its outline standing out clearly against the surrounding fields.
Linear village
The historic core runs along one long main street, so the village reads on the map as a narrow ribbon between the hill and the river.
