Muluppilagadu lies in Kannur district in northern Kerala, on the Malabar Coast. Like much of coastal Kerala, it does not have a single dense town centre. Instead, houses and small lanes spread continuously through green land, so from above the map shows a web of narrow roads rather than a regular grid.
The landscape of this part of Malabar is shaped by water and vegetation: coconut palms, gardens, paddy fields, small rivers and ponds.
