Ang mapa
Novara Map Poster & Print
Novara lies in eastern Piedmont, between the rivers Sesia and Ticino, on the plain between Turin and Milan. The historic centre sits on a slight rise above the surrounding land. Its layout still shows the Roman grid of the ancient town, with streets crossing at right angles in the core. On the map, this compact centre is clearly defined.
Around the old town, the line of the former city walls has become a ring of wide, tree-lined boulevards. On a Novara map poster, this ring stands out as a clean outline enclosing the dense centre. Above the rooftops rises the dome of the Basilica of San Gaudenzio, designed by Alessandro Antonelli, one of the city's defining landmarks.
Beyond the boulevards, newer districts spread out, and the city is surrounded by rice fields, which flood in spring and form shining, flat squares across the plain. Novara is also known for the 1849 battle during the First Italian War of Independence. City, grid and rice fields combine into an orderly map.

Boulevard ring
Tree-lined avenues follow the course of the old walls, enclosing the centre in a clear loop that frames the densest part of the map.
Rice field plain
Around the city, rice paddies divide the flat land into large rectangular parcels, forming a precise pattern in every direction.
