Ang mapa
Nueva Loja Map Poster & Print
Nueva Loja, widely known as Lago Agrio, is the capital of Sucumbíos province in northeastern Ecuador, close to the border with Colombia. It sits almost exactly on the equator, in the lowland rainforest east of the Andes. From above, the town is a fairly regular grid of streets that thins out at the edges into scattered clearings, roads and forest.
The town grew very quickly after oil was found in the region in the late 1960s. Its popular name recalls Sour Lake in Texas, the birthplace of the oil company that drilled the first wells. Roads, pipelines and oil infrastructure largely shaped how the settlement spread into the surrounding Amazon.
A Nueva Loja map poster records a young town in a very old landscape. The ordered street grid stands out against the river channels and irregular tracks around it, and the contrast works well in a single colour. The map suits anyone who wants the Ecuadorian Amazon on the wall in a form that is precise rather than picturesque.

Roads into the forest
Highways and access roads run out from the centre toward oil fields and smaller settlements. They cut long lines through otherwise unbroken green.
River channels
Waterways of the Amazon basin wind past the town. Their curves give a natural contrast to the right angles of the urban core.

Bakit Nueva Loja
Isang mapang may kahulugan
For people from Sucumbíos, or anyone who has worked or travelled in Ecuador's northern Amazon, Nueva Loja is a landmark. A clean map of it is a quiet reminder of a place that grew up fast and far from the capital.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, whether with the town's two names, a year or a family name. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
