Padre Las Casas lies on the south bank of the Cautín River, directly across from Temuco, the regional capital. Bridges link the two, so on a map they look like one city split by water. The river bends broadly between them, and its braided channels and gravel bars make a loose, organic line through the middle of the frame.
The built-up part of the commune is fairly compact. Its streets are mostly regular, and they give way within a short distance to fields, rural roads and scattered homesteads.
