The Hexagon
The town centre is built around a six-sided open space, with streets radiating from its corners. It is a rare layout that dates back to the town's founding.

Ang mapa
Queenstown Map Poster & Print
Queenstown, officially renamed Komani in 2016, was founded in 1853 as a frontier town in the Eastern Cape. Its most unusual feature is the plan of its centre. Instead of a simple grid, the core was laid out around a hexagon, with streets radiating from a central open space. The design was intended to make the town easier to defend.
The hexagon is still clearly visible on the map. Its six sides and the streets leaving its corners form a pattern found in very few towns anywhere. Around it the later suburbs follow more ordinary grids and curves. The Komani River runs along the edge of town, and the land beyond rises toward hills and open grassland.
A Queenstown map poster puts that historic geometry at the centre of the frame. The hexagon draws the eye first. Then the viewer follows the streets outward to the river, the newer neighbourhoods and the country beyond. Few town plans tell their own history so directly from above.

Radiating streets
Roads lead outward from the Hexagon in straight lines. They connect the historic core to the suburbs and give the map a star-like centre.
Komani River
The river runs along the edge of town, and its curves soften the formal geometry of the centre.
