Rhosllannerchrugog, usually called Rhos, lies on a hillside just southwest of Wrexham in northeast Wales. It is often described as one of the largest villages in Wales. From above, it is a long, dense village. Terraced streets run along the slope and cross each other in a loose web instead of forming a neat grid.
Rhos grew with coal mining. Its miners paid for the Stiwt, a miners' institute and theatre that is still at the centre of village life. The community is also known for its strong Welsh-language tradition and its choirs. Around the village, the land opens out into fields and former industrial sites.
