Saint-Dizier sits on the Marne in the Grand Est region and is the largest town in Haute-Marne, larger than Chaumont, the departmental capital. From above, the river and the canal running alongside it define the plan. For centuries the town was known for ironworking, and cast iron made in the area was used for decorative fountains, statues and street furniture across France and beyond.
