Sangzhe is a town in the southeastern part of Chongqing municipality, a region of steep mountains, deep valleys and fast-flowing rivers. Flat land is scarce here, and settlements occupy whatever level ground the terrain allows. From above, the town forms a narrow, elongated shape pressed into a valley, with roads winding along contours rather than running straight.
This part of Chongqing is home to several ethnic communities, including Tujia and Miao, and the landscape of terraced slopes and forested ridges has long shaped how people live and travel.
