Ang mapa
Shpola Map Poster & Print
Shpola is a town in Cherkasy Oblast, in the wooded steppe of central Ukraine. The small Shpolka River runs through it, and the town has grown along both banks. From above, a central area of denser blocks gives way to long residential streets lined with single houses and gardens, which run out into large open fields.
The town is known in Jewish history as the home of Aryeh Leib of Shpola, an eighteenth-century Hasidic figure remembered as the Shpoler Zeide, the grandfather of Shpola. Like many towns in the region, Shpola once had a large Jewish community, and its name still carries that association for descendants around the world.
A Shpola map poster shows the characteristic form of a Ukrainian district town: a modest core, the thread of a river with its ponds, and long streets of household plots that make a fine, regular texture at the edges. It is a restrained image with a strong sense of place.

Garden-plot streets
Long residential streets are lined with houses set on deep plots. From above they create parallel bands that give the outer districts a rhythmic, combed appearance.
Open farmland
Wide fields surround the town in every direction. Their large, simple shapes contrast with the finer street network and frame the settlement cleanly on the page.

Bakit Shpola
Isang mapang may kahulugan
Shpola appears on the walls of people with Ukrainian family roots and of descendants of its former Jewish community who want a tangible link to an ancestral town. The map gives a quiet, dignified record of the place.
Add a family name, a year of emigration or a personal note in the title and subtitle, and keep or change the coordinates. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
