Sikinos is one of the quieter islands of the Cyclades, lying between Ios to the east and Folegandros to the west. It is long, narrow and mountainous, with terraced slopes and dry stone walls across hillsides that drop steeply to the Aegean. Only a few hundred people live there year-round, most of them in the main village.
The map is simple and strong. The small port of Alopronia sits on the southeast coast, and a single road climbs from it to the Chora, the hilltop village formed by the Kastro and its neighbouring settlement, where lanes wind between whitewashed houses.
