The river bends around the eastern side of the city. Meadows and woods along its far bank give the poster a soft, open edge.

Ang mapa
Tambov Map Poster & Print
Tambov was founded in 1636 as a fortress on Russia's southern frontier to guard against raids from the steppe. It stands on the Tsna River in the black-earth region of central Russia. The map shows a compact historic centre on the western bank, with the river curving past it and a band of wooded floodplain on the far side.
The old core follows a regular grid of streets, a plan typical of Russian provincial towns redrawn in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Further from the centre, Soviet-era districts, industrial areas and rail yards extend the city to the west and south. Their blocks are larger and their roads wider.
Tambov is linked with Sergei Rachmaninoff, who spent many summers composing at the Ivanovka estate in the surrounding region. A Tambov map poster shows a quiet provincial capital whose shape still follows its original purpose. It began as a defensible position on a river bank, and embankments and parks have since softened that edge.

Historic grid
The central streets follow a clear, regular pattern and form the most finely detailed part of the map, in contrast to the larger Soviet-era blocks further out.
Riverside embankment
Parks and promenades line the high bank above the Tsna and form a green strip between the grid of the centre and the water below.
