Planned mining grid
The core of town follows a regular street grid laid out during the gold rush of the 1930s, a tidy rectangular pattern that stands out clearly against the surrounding forest.

Ang mapa
Val-d'Or Map Poster & Print
Val-d'Or lies in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of western Quebec, surrounded by boreal forest, wetlands and lakes. The name means valley of gold, and the town was founded in the 1930s around gold discoveries on the Cadillac fault, a geological belt that still supports mining today.
From above, the town is an orderly grid of residential streets set against a much wilder surrounding landscape. Route 117 runs through as a long, firm line, and beyond the built-up edge the map breaks into irregular shorelines, forest tracks and the geometric footprints of mine sites.
The old Lamaque mine and its miners' village are now preserved as the Cité de l'Or, one of the better-known places in the region. A Val-d'Or map poster shows how neatly the town was laid out against the forest, and how quickly that order gives way to lakes and bush at the edges.

Lakes and wetlands
The edges of the map are filled with the irregular outlines of boreal lakes and marshes, giving the sheet broken, uneven shapes that contrast with the straight streets.
Route 117
The highway linking Abitibi to Montreal and the Ontario border crosses the map as a strong horizontal line, the main axis the town grew along.

Bakit Val-d'Or
Isang mapang may kahulugan
Val-d'Or is a place people often arrive at for work and end up calling home, and a map of it records that attachment without sentiment. It suits former miners, families with roots in Abitibi, and anyone who has spent winters here.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a year of arrival, and choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download 300 DPI files for $9 in six sizes, or order a printed poster on matte paper, framed if you like.
