Walthamstow is a district in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, in the north-east of the city. Its map is classic Victorian and Edwardian London: row after row of terraced houses in long parallel streets. Many were built after the railway arrived and made it possible to commute into the City. The wide reservoirs of the Lea Valley lie to the west.
The High Street is home to Walthamstow Market, often described as one of the longest outdoor street markets in Europe. The designer William Morris was born here in 1834, and his family's former home in Lloyd Park is now the William Morris Gallery.
