Old trade routes
Bende grew as a market town on routes through the Igbo interior. The roads that radiate from its centre still show that role as a meeting point for the surrounding communities.

Bende Map Poster & Print
Bende is a town in the north of Abia State in south-eastern Nigeria, and the seat of the local government area that carries its name. The land around it is rolling rather than flat. Seen from above, the pattern is one of roads following the terrain, clusters of compounds, and wide stretches of farmland and bush between neighbouring communities.
The town has a long history as a trading place in Igboland. It was a busy market on routes that linked the interior with the coast, and it later served as a colonial administrative centre whose name was given to a wider division. That history is a quiet one on the ground, carried more in the town's position on old routes than in any grand plan.
A Bende map poster gives this dispersed settlement a clear outline. The main roads become strong lines through the town and a finer network of lanes spreads out towards the surrounding villages. Open land fills the space between them. It is a modest, honest picture of a place, and in print it often reads as more personal than a large city map.

Rolling uplands
The ground rises and falls around the town, and roads curve with it rather than running straight. This gives the map a loose, organic rhythm.
Town and country
Compounds and streets thin out into farmland and bush with no hard edge. On a monochrome poster, the town seems to fade gradually into the landscape.
