Beyşehir lies in Konya Province in south-central Turkey, on the southeastern shore of Lake Beyşehir, the largest freshwater lake in the country. The town gathers around the point where the lake empties into the Beyşehir channel, which flows through the centre and is crossed by a historic bridge and weir. From above, the broad water dominates, with the town's streets fanning out from the shore.
The town has deep Seljuk and Beylik-era roots. Its best-known monument is the Eşrefoğlu Mosque, built in the late thirteenth century, whose interior of carved wooden columns is among the finest of its kind; it is one of a group of wooden hypostyle mosques on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The lake is dotted with islands, and mountains rise along its western side.
