Compact centre

Chengzhong Map Poster & Print
Chengzhong, whose name simply means city centre, is the central urban district of a county-level city in Hubei Province, on low ground northwest of Wuhan. The surrounding landscape belongs to the wide plains of central Hubei, where rivers, ponds and irrigation channels divide the land into fields. From above, the town is a dense cluster of streets set within that watery pattern.
Like many Chinese city centres, it pairs an older core of narrower streets with newer districts of broader, straighter roads and large housing compounds. These compounds show up on a map as regular blocks with their own internal roads, which gives the outer areas a more geometric look. Beyond them the street network thins quickly and fields and ponds take over.
Central Hubei has long been a farming region, and the ponds and canals around places like this are as much a part of the map as the streets. A Chengzhong map poster keeps the composition honest and restrained. It shows the compact centre, the new roads and the water-marked countryside around them, and adds nothing the map does not show.

Newer avenues
Wide, straight roads and large housing blocks surround the centre. They create a more regular, geometric texture that contrasts with the older street pattern.
Ponds and channels
At the edges, small ponds and irrigation channels are scattered across the flat land. Their soft shapes and fine lines show the farmland around the city.
