Dibba Al-Hisn Map Poster & Print
Dibba Al-Hisn lies on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, on a wide bay of the Gulf of Oman near the northern end of the coast. The town is part of the larger Dibba area, which is divided between Oman, Sharjah and Fujairah. From above, the built-up area runs as a narrow strip between the sea and the steep, bare Hajar mountains.
The word hisn means fort, which points to the town's past as a fortified coastal settlement. Dibba itself is an old name in the region's history. It is associated with a battle fought here in the early Islamic period, and the area has been inhabited and traded from for a very long time.
A Dibba Al-Hisn map poster shows the town's coastal layout clearly: the curve of the bay, the streets filling the flat strip of land, and the sharp line where the plain ends and the mountains begin. On a map, that meeting of sea, town and rock looks especially dramatic.

Mountain wall
The Hajar mountains rise steeply behind the coastal strip. Streets stop at their foot, which gives the poster a sharp boundary between settlement and bare terrain.
Shared coastline
The wider Dibba area is divided between several emirates and Oman. The continuous street pattern along the bay shows little of these borders, which makes a curious detail for those who know the area.
