Dodge City Map Poster & Print
Dodge City lies on the north bank of the Arkansas River, and from above its plan is classic Great Plains geometry. The streets form a straight grid laid out alongside the railway, which runs through town close to the river. At the edges the blocks give way to rectangular fields and feedlots that continue across the flat prairie toward the horizon.
The historic downtown around Front Street sits close to the tracks, where the town first grew as a shipping point. Larger industrial sites, including meatpacking plants, sit toward the edges, and highways cross the town to connect it with the rest of western Kansas. A Dodge City map poster captures this plain, practical plan, in which almost every line reflects the town's role in moving goods across the plains.
Founded in 1872 on the Santa Fe railroad near the Santa Fe Trail, Dodge City became one of the best-known cattle towns of the Old West, where Texas herds were driven north for shipping. It is linked to lawmen such as Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson, and the Boot Hill Museum recalls that era. Beef processing remains central to the local economy.

Railway and Front Street
The rail line cuts straight across the map, with the historic Front Street district beside it, where the town first grew as a cattle-shipping point.
Prairie grid
Beyond the town, section-line roads divide the land into large squares, carrying the geometry of the streets out into the surrounding farmland and ranches.
