Lupeni Map Poster & Print
Lupeni lies in the Jiu Valley in Hunedoara County, a long mountain basin in the Southern Carpathians that for generations was the centre of Romanian coal mining. The town stretches along the Western Jiu River. Its streets fill the valley floor and climb a short way up the slopes before the forest takes over.
The town is known in Romanian history for the Lupeni strike of 1929, when miners' protests were suppressed with loss of life. Today, above the town, the Straja resort draws skiers to the slopes in winter. The Retezat mountains, with their national park, lie not far to the south.
A Lupeni map poster shows a town shaped by its valley. It is long and narrow, with apartment blocks and mining sites along the river and the main road, and steep wooded ground on both sides. In black and white, the band of streets reads clearly against the empty mountains.

Mining areas
Former and working mine sites, with their rail lines and industrial yards, sit among the neighbourhoods. They are reminders of the valley's coal history.
Mountain slopes
Forested slopes rise steeply on both sides of the valley, and the resort area lies above the town. On the map they leave broad blank margins around the streets.

Zašto Lupeni
Karta koja nešto znači
The poster suits miners' families, people who grew up in the Jiu Valley and moved away, and skiers who know the road up to Straja. It shows a working mountain town honestly and without decoration.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a family name or an important year. Then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir suits the dark wooded slopes well.
