Allegheny River edge
The river forms the borough's northern boundary, a wide curve of water that gives the map a firm edge against the maze of hillside roads.

Plum Map Poster & Print
Plum is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on the eastern edge of the Pittsburgh area. Its northern boundary follows the Allegheny River, and the land rising from the water is a mix of steep hillsides, wooded ravines and rounded ridgetops. On a map there is no grid at all: roads twist along the terrain, and subdivisions branch off them in loops and cul-de-sacs.
Much of Plum was farmland until the second half of the twentieth century, when suburban growth reached it from Pittsburgh. The result is a patchwork of residential developments, remaining woodland and open space spread across a large area, with local parks and schools serving a community that feels more spread out than urban. The borough takes its name from Plum Creek, which flows through the area.
A Plum map poster makes the most of that irregular geography. The meandering lines of the streets, the valleys left blank between them and the broad sweep of the river along the edge create a surprisingly organic pattern, closer to a drawing of branches or veins than to the tidy grid most people picture when they think of an American suburb.

Ridge-top roads
Main roads tend to follow the high ground between valleys, drawing long, winding spines from which smaller residential streets branch off.
Wooded hollows
Steep ravines and creek valleys remain largely unbuilt, leaving pale, empty channels between neighbourhoods that reveal the underlying shape of the land.
