Ronnenberg is a town in the Hanover Region of Lower Saxony, directly southwest of the city of Hanover. It is made up of several distinct localities, including Empelde, Ronnenberg itself, Benthe and Weetzen, and on a map they appear as separate clusters of streets linked by country roads and railway lines rather than as a single continuous town.
Empelde, the largest part, borders the Hanover city districts and has the tighter, more suburban street pattern. Further south and west, the older villages keep their compact cores surrounded by fields. The wooded Benther Berg rises beside Benthe, one of the low hills that break the otherwise flat land at the edge of the North German Plain.
The town also has a long history of potash mining, and a spoil heap left by the industry remains a local landmark.
