The town is made up of several former villages, including Großsachsenheim and Kleinsachsenheim, each with its own compact centre. On a map they appear as a group of distinct settlements linked by country roads, rather than a single continuous town.
The centre of Großsachsenheim is marked by its Wasserschloss, a moated castle that today houses the town hall. Around it the old streets curve in a tight, irregular pattern, while newer residential areas spread in more regular blocks toward the fields.
