Compact town centre
The built-up area is small and tightly drawn, a cluster of short streets and blocks that stands out clearly against the open ground around it and anchors the whole composition.

Songhwa Map Poster & Print
Songhwa is a small town in South Hwanghae province, in the southwest of North Korea, and the seat of the county of the same name. On a map it looks modest: a short run of streets and a handful of blocks, set in open farmland in the western part of the province rather than in a large urban grid.
The land around the town does most of the work on paper. Flat cultivated ground spreads out in every direction, broken by low wooded rises and crossed by the long straight lines of irrigation ditches and field boundaries. A few local roads lead out towards neighbouring towns, and the fine texture of the fields gives the page a quiet, woven quality.
A Songhwa map poster shows how a rural county seat sits in its landscape, with the town as a small, dense centre and the fields and hills as its setting. Songhwa County is also known in Korea for its hot springs, part of a wider band of mineral springs in the Hwanghae region, which adds to the town's standing beyond its size.

Field and channel pattern
The surrounding plain is divided into regular parcels and threaded with irrigation lines, giving the map a fine linear texture that turns especially graphic in black and white.
Low hills around
Gentle wooded rises break up the flat farmland, softening the edges of the grid and giving the sheet a sense of depth even though the terrain is modest.

Zašto Songhwa
Karta koja nešto znači
Some people hang Songhwa because the family comes from there, or because it marks a part of the Korean peninsula that is rarely seen in detail. The small town and its wide fields make for a restrained, balanced picture that suits calm rooms and reading corners.
The poster can be personalised with your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or a date, and printed in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files are $9, and printed versions ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
