Suhe Map Poster & Print
Suhe is a small town in the southern part of Gansu Province, in north-western China. The land here is hilly and cut by valleys, and on a map the terrain is clear from the roads alone. They follow the valley floors and bend with the watercourses rather than crossing the high ground.
Settlements in this part of Gansu tend to grow along valleys, with buildings lining the main road and fields terraced up the surrounding slopes. On the map Suhe appears as a narrow, lengthened cluster, shaped more by the terrain than by any planned grid. The streams beside it add fine lines that follow the same direction.
A Suhe map poster shows how geography shapes a place. The built-up area is narrow and stretched out, the roads twist through the landscape, and the open space around them is the hillside. The result is spare and unusual, suited to styles such as Sand or Paper that soften the empty ground.
