Wawer Map Poster & Print
Wawer is the largest district of Warsaw by area. It lies on the right bank of the Vistula, at the city's southeastern edge. From above it looks very different from central Warsaw. Instead of apartment blocks and avenues, the map shows scattered villa neighbourhoods, sandy roads, railway lines running southeast and large stretches of pine forest.
The district grew from a string of villages and interwar garden suburbs, including Anin, Marysin Wawerski and Falenica, along the railway to Otwock. Part of the 1831 Battle of Olszynka Grochowska was fought on land that is now within or next to the district. The eastern edge borders the forests of the Masovian Landscape Park.

The line running southeast shaped the district's growth, with settlements forming around the stations. It crosses the whole map diagonally.

Large wooded areas cover much of the district, especially toward the east. On the map they show up as quiet, open spaces between the streets.
